On a small, flat lawn the Craftsman R110 riding mower is genuinely fun to run; it slips through narrow gates and between trees with no fuss, and with the 30 in. deck it leaves a cleaner cut than I expected. Once you get used to the steering, it is easy to maneuver, and you just shift through the gears as if you are driving a car, but as soon as you get to even a light slope, the rear tires are quick to spin, which is especially annoying on damp grass. After a while you start to feel a bit of slack in the drive, and it gives you the impression that the belt is fussy and wants adjustment and regular maintenance. Because the deck steel is on the thin side, I try not to mow wet grass too often; otherwise, I cannot shake the feeling that it will rust out sooner than I would like. In short, I see the Craftsman R110 mower as a cheap, compact “toy tractor” for flat yards that does a good job on the right terrain but is not made for hills, heavy use, or being neglected.
