I’ve run a Case 1150M both on road work and on land clearing; to me it’s the definition of a mid-size dozer that still gets things done without breaking a sweat. Power-wise it’s in the Cat D5 / John Deere 700 range; when you drop the blade in the ground the machine isn’t gutless at all, and because it’s hydrostatic it’s very controlled, especially on fine grading. With counter-rotation, adjustable control feel and blade response you can soften it up or make it more aggressive to suit the operator, which makes a big difference if you’re in it all day. The cab is roomy, visibility is good, vibration and noise are at modern-machine levels; on long shifts it doesn’t wear you out and has that “give me a tea and I’ll keep going” attitude. Size-wise it’s neither clumsy nor a toy; on fill, base, grading, cutting firebreaks and similar work it doesn’t really make you think “I should’ve gone one size bigger.”
